I curated this set mainly because my son is starting solids soon, and I’d love to solve first-time parents’ problem of “What do I need to start solids?”
A little background about me and my children—I fed my firstborn (now 5 years old) the BLW way, and to be honest, I was shocked by the mess and filled with so much anxiety and apprehension. I took courses to understand the difference between gagging and choking because this is a common concern with BLW.
I come from a traditional family that fed porridge, and the idea of BLW was so new to both me and my family. But after researching like crazy, I chose BLW because I believed in its benefits.
BLW is messy—super messy—but the benefits are worth it. I recall listening to a podcast by Katie Ferraro, where she once said, “If you think BLW is time-consuming, think about the time you need to feed your baby, coax your toddler to eat, run after your toddler, and fight your toddler during mealtimes. Now, that’s time-consuming.” That quote completely changed my mindset about BLW, and I went for it!
I wouldn’t say my daughter is the PERFECT eater who eats all her food, finishes her greens, drinks her soup, and clears her plate. But I would say she is willing to try new foods (we hit 100 foods before she turned 1!) and knows her body well—I don’t force her to eat, and she has gone to bed hungry before simply because she didn’t eat much dinner and had to deal with the hunger (oops!). I give her the ultimate trust in knowing when she is hungry and when she is not, and I rarely ever fight her during mealtimes. To me, mealtimes should be enjoyable, filled with laughter, and relaxing.
I love our relationship with food, and I would love to raise another foodie—hence the Ultimate BLW Starter Kit. I hope to inspire other parents to do the same. But hey, there’s no shame in NOT doing BLW too—whatever works for your family. The mess is no joke, haha!
I just hope this kit will help you take the first step and the first leap of faith in creating a positive association with food for your little one. All the best! Feel free to hit me up if you need help!
